I just received a set of Tulip Etimo steel crochet hooks (after discovering that their larger aluminum set is the best ever!) They have a cover for the hook tips, similar to the old steel shroud that used to cover a size 14 steel hook (such as Boye), but these have a quality plastic cover that is slightly tapered inside, and a V concave shape where the point sits (and the outside is a cylinder with a flat bottom).
These should make an excellent cover for a pricker, and if the top is too wide, than a visit to the hardware store for an "O" ring, or rubber finding could help clutch the metal of the tool. If need be, a circle could be cut from a kitchen "gripper" (for removing jar or bottle tops) and glued on with E6000. The caps on the Tulip Etimo are all the same size, so if you need a hook for lace, crochet, or even to pull snags on knits to the backside of garments, this could be a good solution and re-purpose the cap. If purchased singly, they come in a decent plastic box, but mostly likely only large enough hold a pricker that had a smaller diameter.
