I just finished a black thread project... that had been set up for white thread using blue film on a white pattern, then I found I had the right size black and switched. The pattern was already set up on the pillow and I didn't want to re-do it. Probably should have.
DO NOT use blue film for black thread. The contrast is poor. White might be a bit stark, but a light pastel sounds like a better choice. I know now, for next time. Alice in Oregon ...
