Hello All! So glad this question came up! Most chairs do not provide proper support for lacemaking (or embroidery for that matter) i.e the seat is too soft/spongy, the seat is too long so the distance to the back is too far, wrong height etc. etc. A straight back dining room-type chair (with cushions as needed to fill the space between your back & the back of the chair) is the best--WITH BOTH FEET planted flat on the floor or on a small stool/box. If you are height challenged like me, bringing your knees up slightly really takes the strain off! Beware--crossed ankles, legs, knees etc. are not conducive to good posture as you end up slumping on one "bun" or the other. Table height is important too lest you find yourself hunched over your work. Standard table height does not work for me--I'm 5'2" so my table is 23.5" tall. And lastly, consider Qi Gong to save yourself from yourself. I use the list at www.qihw.com/qigong (there are others). Upper body exercises #2,3,! 4,5,6,7,8,10,11,12,13,14,15,16&17 are helpful to stretch/move/relax neck, arms & back. Aligning the body will improve your life & your enjoyment of lacemaking.
