I have not made a roller pillow, but have made several sizes of blocks for block pillows. I am lucky to be a quilter also which leaves me with pieces of wool batting which make excellent coverings for styrofoam before putting cotton - homespun - over that. The largest is a 23 1/2" square pillow (has a masonite base with sides made by a friend's husband) and it has it's second Eeva-Liisa picture on it at the moment.
One roller pillow (as per Pamela Nottihgham's book) was made for me by an upholsterer and that works well too.
