I don't know what the contracts of other published authors are, but I've an
already had of 3 books (not lace) published, the first in 1983 and the last
around 2000 - before the ability to self-publish in it's present form
existed. My contracts all state that if they stop printing (which they
haven't so far) and I want more printed, I have to ask the publisher to do
so. If they refuse I then have the right to go to another publisher or
publish myself, but not before they have refused. Additionally if I write
another book, I have to offer it to my original publisher for first refusal
before I can do anything else with it. So although I own the copyright, I'm
restricted on what I can do.
