Thoughts from a Lace Library owner: Over 1,000 book titles under "Lace" category! During the past 40 years, none cost just $1. Most cost well over $25. At the IOLI in August, I bought 19 books from a dealer, at an average price of $47 per book!!! I have usually paid what specialty lace book dealers charge in the US, and at OIDFA and other meetings abroad. They are not marked down by these suppliers, who have large expenses connected to travel, lodging, rented space in sales rooms, and so forth to be present at a lace event. I think it is important to keep these specialized book dealers in business - for the present. Besides, I like to hold a book in my hands and evaluate it before purchasing. Twice, used lace books were purchased in bulk from lacemakers, and from that I do have quite a few duplicates which came along with the books I really wanted. But, I never can figure out how to price and sell the duplicates because of the insane pricing we are seeing out there. If copies flood the market, what does that do to the value of a library accumulated book-by-book? I have not found an educational organization that is interested in receiving the library as a gift! Cautionary warning: Some people have been scammed by dealers Amazon lists for out-of-print books. You really need to know whom you are buying from, or your personal identification can be compromised for an extended period of time (years). Also, two local used book dealers here in Maine are pricing used books based on what they see out there that may be fake prices. That may be happening where you live.
