I have been corresponding with a gentleman in Slovenia, purchasing stamps with Idrija lace on them from him on ebay. Our exchanges led to a more general exchange of notes that included the statement below from him about Idrija lace. I myself don't know much about this type of lace and have no books on it--its origins may be generally known, but if not I thought his remarks might be of interest: "I do not know what are the specifics of Idrija lace, but I think that they originate in the tradition of German settlers who were in charge of Idrija mercury mine. Their wives used to spend their time making lace. This tradition has been preserved until today." The stamps are attractive, and a nice set: 20 different designs in 10 denominations. Good for Slovenia for recognizing their heritage! Nancy Connecticut, USA
