Thanks so much. Actually, I went online and googled paper bobbins. I must
admit to a partiality to unspangled bobbins, and I like the idea of the
skewer or 1/8" dowel as the basis. the beads do a good job near the thread.
I'll be going to the local craft store and see what can be found to weigh
the back end of the bobbin. I'm thinking of something on the line of the
Flemish bobbins, where the only real difference is the shape of the wood
blob on the bottom. Like the bobbin near the bottom of Brenda Paternoster's
website, but without the ring of beads at the bottom.
http://paternoster.orpheusweb.co.uk/lace/bobbins/specials.html That one is
inspriational. Beginners will need at least a dozen bobbins, and I'd like
to be able to create a kit that's cheap yet useful. foam insulation is my
first choice for a first pillow. Crochet thread for the first projects.
Then you can do colors. I believe that is especially appealing to
youngsters. It also helps to follow the path of your threads.

Does anyone have
an idea for homemade bobbins? Something that's quick to make, relatively
sturdy? What are paper bobbins, are there other ideas out there?

bit
cool. But it's October, and that's to be expected.
