On the last two Sundays, I have enjoyed making lace at a homestead museum, just
near our home. I dress in Edwardian costume, and work beside the local
spinners. Both Sundays were beautifully fine, and it was very pleasant,
sitting
under the sycamore trees and making lace ... and it was a pleasure to be able
to relax and make lace in such beautiful surroundings... sunshine and shade,
music, chatter, and the distant throb of the old machinery being demonstrated...

I love making lace in beautiful places. There was a time when the only time I
really made lace was on vacations. We camp near Acadia National Park in Maine,
and I would load my pillow, folding chair and stand on my bicycle and ride to
Long Pond and make lace there. Or while waiting for the ferry from Swans
Island, making lace by the harbor. At that time, my only lace table was from
John, from Torchon House in Australia, and I took pictures and sent them to him
of the places where I was making lace with his table. Another beautiful place
was demonstrating at the Robert Fulton House, an old stone farmhouse under
trees in a beautiful setting. Now I'm making lace by the sliding glass doors
in the kitchen, where, beyond the deck, is a park with trees and a river. Not
as pretty, because I get to see what is needed to be done in the kitchen, but
incredibly convenient. There is just something special making beautiful things
in beautiful places.

Where do you make lace that is pretty?

Lyn in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, US, where it's mild and damp.
