Hello All! Thank you Jenny for posting about the Jane Atkinson workshop in 2012--I had no clue. Would you believe it starts on the same weekend that I've signed up for a class in Pittsburgh!?! :-( I will put this on my radar to check for an itinerary, however it will take lots of back-pedaling to extricate myself from the commitment, bummer. As to "mistakes", I prefer to think of them as unauthorized detours from the pattern! Others have spoken of the "can you live with it?" approach to the issue, i.e. NOT going back to re-do etc. My threshold for "living with it" is lower because my concern is: 1) did I learn something useful & 2) can I still use the piece for something, even if not its original purpose? While we are most critical of our own work, non-lacemakers just don't see these blips. And trust me--the bride will be thrilled that she is NOT wearing that over-priced & dreadfully prickly Chinese nylon garter that is commercially available! Finally I would ment! ion--if your lacemaking friends look at your work & point out your mistakes (uninvited), then you need new friends. This is different than asking your friends to critique your project when auditioning ideas/threads/patterns & seeking feedback. One is helpful, the other unkind. Happy Thanksgiving to All. Sincerely, Susan Hottle, Erie, PA USA, getting ready to devour the turkey & apple dumplings
