This is rather late as I have been busy and only just caught up with my
Digests.  One answer I have not seen, but I might have missed it, is where on
the neck you started winding the thread.  One trick I use to stop bobbins
unwinding is to start the winding close to the head and make sure the first
1/4 in (6mm) is well covered before letting the winding travel down the neck.
Then as you continue make sure the winding tapers from immediately below the
neck downwards.  If the winding is wider in the centre of the neck than it is
just below the head it will often loosen the hitch.
