My suggestion Ann would be to decorate a waistcoat - I used small motifs of tatting that way very successfully on a crazy patchwork waistcoat. Perhaps with the delicacy of Honiton motifs, a crazy patchwork in different shades of just one colour. The tatting stood out well on a crazy patchwork of printed fabrics.
