Hi Carol! Well now, doesn't that sound like fun! Too bad about the
pics--maybe one of the geeks at BestBuy/or?? could help you retrieve?? I've
participated in similar *events* with CQ (crazy quilting) & fiber challenges.
It really gets folks thinking outside a personal comfort zone & results are
usually stunning. After I posted about the SALs, it occurred to me that I
should have also mentioned CyberStitchers (EGA)who get together as a "guild" to
learn/share by working on defined projects. A similar concept could work with
our far-flung group of lacemakers. Membership would have its rewards & there
wouldn't be any geographic boundaries. Arachne could be a great platform
because the list & photo wall already exist. But it could also work for a
small guild that wanted to increase its membership. So many guilds have
already posted free content (Thank You!!), the next logical step would be a
cyberclass to share the instructional side of the equation (working diagram, n!
otes, Q&A sessions, FAQs etc) that would only be available to *members*. For
a lot of guilds, even ten new members (at let's say $20/year) would be a major
improvement to their treasury. Speaking only for myself, I would probably join
a few extra guilds based on the size & type of projects they offered.

I doled out patterns of squares for all my class members, and asked them to
interpret the patterns as they saw fit - I didn't show them any diagrams or
pictures. When they were all completed, it was difficult to believe that they
all started out with exactly the same pricking. Coloured workers, cloth
stitch and half stitch, all these combined to make the lace entirely
different.
