Unfortunately, Newfoundland hair when spun has a bloom after a bit of use,
which makes lace knitting futile. I made a scarf for Middle Child, in a simple
pattern of diagonal stripes of knit and purl. After a couple years of use, the
threads bloomed, and it became something like a piece of fur, and you couldn't
see the pattern at all, unless you knew it was there. I could be the nature of
the dog hair, which I think probable, or my spinning, which is more than
possible. Newfoundland staple is less than 3" long, and in any event wouldn't
be suitable for laceweight yarn. But since the price of the fiber is great,
costing nothing, I can figure out uses for it.

Lyn from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where it is dreary.
