Yes, actually, I was going to ask about the lace collection. From what I
can tell, Cleveland has an excellent lace collection. Some pieces were
donated by Mrs. E.S. Harkness to that museum in honor of her mother-in-law, as
the family had Cleveland roots. Mrs. Harkness was a major lace donor to the
Metropolitan Museum of Art's lace collection. Also at the Cleveland Museum
are part of the Schiff collection. The collection that belonged to American
expatriate Ida Schiff was divided into three, with one third going to the
Metropolitan Museum of Art, and one third to Clevelend, the last third going
to a Minnesota museum. Photographs from the Schiff Collection are featured
throughout Ricci's book Old Italian Lace, which has been republished by
Dover. The Schiff collection has a lot of laces that are identified in the
book as being from the 16th and 17th centuries.

Peg, could we prevail upon you to launch a hunger strike on the steps of
the Cleveland Museum in an effort to get them to put photos of all their
lace on-line?
