Dear Spiders, I've resubscribed Lyn to Arachne. She has assured me that she does read her Arachne email, so I suggested that she re-write her canned auto-response and put a line in her sig. In other words, ignore the email that comes back when you write to her. Pretend she's gone to walk the dog or stepped away from her computer.
The second issue is the appearance of her messages. The cause is not Arachne but Earthlink, her ISP. Its encoding is not plain text, and Majordomo (the list software) is passing on the anomalous characters because that's what it's supposed to do. I hadn't noticed these problems because I use Gmail, which is quite accommodating and displays just about any kind of encoding. If I can figure out a reasonable fix or workaround, I'll pass it on to Lyn.(Lyn, have you tried calling your tech support?)
