Hi Alice & fellow Arachnids,

What a nice idea to have a week of lace making every day in each others homes. It would be a good way to bridge the long summer holidays when there are no lace classes. I will suggest it to my students for next year (it is too late to organise for this year). They are always complaining that the gap between the end of class in mid-July and the start of class at mid September is far too long. This would be a good remedy which would be in their own hands! There are several who are very capable of organising this.

Happy lace making,

Subject: [lace] Un-conference Report

As you know from previous posts, this week is the IOLI conference in the USA. There's some of us in our group who wished they could go but it wasn't to be. So, someone dreamed up the Un-Conference Workshop. We have 8 or 9 people participating, though not everyone every day.

We meet in a different home each day and each person is working with the same pattern from Lace Express (an oval doily), the way we would do in a class at conference. Each person is doing it her way, however she interprets the pattern, and we help each other. Some are new lacemakers and some experienced. We look forward to comparing our results when finished.<.................

..................>I didn't work on my project tonight, but look forward to doing it tomorrow. If our average lacemaking speed is a square inch an hour, I should be able to do about five inches on the pattern tomorrow. That will be my goal.

Have a good week, whether at conference, Un-conference, or just doing the usual things.
