UK copyright is 70 years after the author's death. I'd be more than a bit p***** and would look into the legal position if anyone tried to put my books into the public domain, especially as they're still currently being published. If anyone wanted to use the patterns (they're not lace) for purposes other than their own, I'd probably agree if they contacted me.

One exception to this that I know of to 70 years after the author's death is 'Peter Pan' by J.M.Barry - the copyright for that belongs to Great Ormond Street Hospital (the GOSH! face which appeared in the middle of the arena during the nurses bit in our Olympics opening ceremony) and they receive all royalties to help run the hospital which caters for children who have unusual and often life-threatening illnesses, even though J.M.Barry has been dead for 75 years. The US granted copyright until 2023, but Disney has published sequels with permission or paying royalties.
