I have not worked Romanian Point, but have had this problem in embroidery.  I 
have found that keeping a fine beading needle handy is a lifesaver!  I run the 
needle from the front to the back until just the eye is in front, and then use 
a loop of scrap thread to pull the working thread through the eye.  Then it's 
pulled through to the back where I repeat the process to sew it out.
