Thank you all for the kind things you have said, I certainly feel rather
proud
of myself, although there were times when I it seemed I was going backwards
more than I was going forwards.

Congratulations Alison. You deserve a big pat on the back.

Subject: [lace] Twists in Bucks Point

I am working on some Bucks Point lace that has half stitch motifs surrounded
by gimps. I don't know if I'm doing the right number of twists.

I twist two after passing through the gimp, give an extra twist to the worker
at the end of a row, and give an extra twist before passing through the gimp.

Is that right?

Hi Arachnids

That's OK Jane. I did a lot of research bfore writing my book and found that
every possible clombination of twist imaginable had been used in the past. It
is important to bear in mind why the twists are there. Alison mentioned my
book on Geometrical Bucks point and I included as much as I know about the how
and why, see if you can borrow it from a friend or a library.

Recently I taught a weekend and for some I followed a teacher who is rigid
about 'rules', but I have a different attitude and ended up by devising my own
set of rules.

Alex's Rules of Lacemaking (
1 You MUST enjoy yourself when making lace.
2 Your lace must look beautiful.
3 Your lace must be suitable for its purpose. (It's disappointing if lace
cannot survive normal use. Lace to be placed under glass does not need to be
made as strongly as that which will be washed and worn.)
4 You may break any other rule providing you know the standard rule and are
confident that you will not break Rules 3 by doing so - and don't do it when
teacher's watching.)

Happy lacemaking

Alex
