Our member, Dianne Derbyshire - volunteer and resident lace expert at Gawthorpe Hall, has asked me to share recent developments at Gawthorpe Hall, which holds England's second largest textile collection. I have written to Arachne before about the original fascinating collector of laces and embroideries, Rachel Kay-Shuttleworth. You can find that information in our archives under the subject Gawthorpe Hall. _http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/index.html_ (http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/index.html) This has been the year to celebrate the centenary of Rachel's vision. There is a new young Director at Gawthorpe Textiles Collection. She has raised funds for a lot of new projects. New exhibits are being prepared that will be based on Rachel and her Craft House. There will be a lot of new courses in 2013. Very exciting. There is also a young woman who is working on the web site and a blog, facebook and twitter for the collection. The web site is _http://www.gawthorpetextiles.org.uk/_ (http://www.gawthorpetextiles.org.uk/) At the bottom of the first page, there is a [Next] tab. Don't miss the next page - it has lace content.
***Everyone: If you hold a leadership position in a local lace/embroidery guild, there is a lot of content to inspire programs and activities. You can read what a museum is doing and modify for your location! I wish I could print this paragraph in bold type so you would not miss this idea. Please, if this is helpful to you and your local guild, let us know so we can provide feedback to the women at Gawthorpe who are working so hard to educate and preserve our history. If you are traveling to the Lancashire area in northern England, this is a "must visit" place. Contact them to verify days and hours they are open.
