Lace is often very faithfully depicted on portraits from that era, so the National Portrait Gallery would be worth a visit if images of lace are of interest to eke out the surviving real pieces....

(It's years since I've been there, but I seem to remember some spectacularly detailed lace on portraits of Elizabethan notables...)
