In these super-twitchy days as well, if you leave a flight early would you then be under suspicion of leaving something (eg explosive) behind on the plane?

Here, with rail travel, if you buy a cheaper ticket to somewhere else and stop (or start) short, your ticket becomes invalid and you have to pay the full price plus often a fine on top of what you have already paid. Several families have found this to their cost.

Sometimes you'll find that booking a 1 stop flight from Cleveland to
San Francisco is a lot cheaper than a flight from Cleveland to Salt Lake City.

There's a problem with that--if you don't complete your flight all the way to
San Francisco, the airlines often cancel your ticket. In other words, you won't
be able to board your return flight at Salt Lake City.
