Hi Miriam First of all, Aurifil is a Z twisted thread; you may be a lacemaker who gets on better with S twisted threads - which most traditional lace threads are/were.
Secondly, Aurifil are 2ply threads which mean that they flatten more than three ply thread and are less strong. I personally wouldn't choose anything 2ply for machine piecing, though it would be OK for the quilting.
