Dear spiders,

I'm seeing a lot of posts on the list that haven't been trimmed. If
you ever force yourself to read digests, you really notice the double,
triple, even quadruple footers. Please take time to trim quoted posts,
cutting off the irrelevant bits. If you are having trouble figuring
out how to do so on your tablet, email me privately and I'll either
help you or find on-line instructions. As a last resort, you could
always use your PC keyboard!

Repeat offenders (flagrant non-trimmers) may be subscribed to digest
for a few weeks while they learn to mend their ways.... :-)

----

The list was set up by Liz Reynolds. I'm the moderator and can make
changes, but basically the functionality is what it is. Arachne is a
no-frills email list, without pictures, databases, attachments,
graphics, on-line chat, etc. This enables us to keep the list lean and
trim, low on frills, high on useful content. You'll notice we don't
have advertising in our messages (that's the price of "free" services
like Yahoo).

The list is set up as "Reply to All" to prevent private messages from
being sent to the list by accident. If you don't like replying to both
the sender and the list, you can either delete the sender from the
"To" field or you can click "Reply" and insert [email protected] from
your addressbook in the "To" field.

The list does not have full moderation. In other words, once you send
a message, I see it at the same time as everyone else and I cannot
prevent a message from appearing on the list. Since there is no way to
block or recall a posted message, the configuration is set to require
"Reply all" to send to the list. Otherwise it's too easy for someone
to come home at the end of a long lace day, see a message from a dear
friend, write a response filled with delightfully catty comments about
the teachers, vendors, and food--and send it to hundreds of people,
including the vilified teachers, vendors, and organizers.

"Reply all" may seem inconvenient if you don't use keyboard shortcuts
but it prevents a lot of headaches in the long run. On the other hand,
it is fairly easy to hit "Reply All" on a mobile device, as this
article shows: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Email_storm. I experienced
the 18 September 2013 email storm at Cisco. I don't recall the
broccoli casserole recipe but I did get a pizza recipe...
