I remember a few years ago, someone mentioning that she was reacting to the
exotic woods of her bobbins. She had to put them all aside and just use the
hard temperate woods i.e. oak, maple, fruit woods.
If you think it is the wood - perhaps you could sand them lightly to remove
any oils or finishes and then treat them with several coats of urethane
varnish.
Malvary in Ottawa were it is only -12 with a wind chill of -18 at the
moment.
