Dear Arachnes,

I've just finished a marathon effort to catalogue my bobbins, I realised that
I probably had more than I thought, and I was right. 20 years of lacemaking
will do that to a collection (and I'm not going to admit how many!). I've had
a lot of success identifying makers and painters particularly for recent ones,
but there are a few that have me stumped. I've put a few pictures in an album
on Flickr. Most are UK makers, bought at local lace days and fairs since the
mid 90s at Fenland, Cambridge, Peterborough, and Stevenage. But there are a
couple of US ones, probably a bobbin exchange. I have a pair that are I think
painted by April Lind but I don't know the bobbin maker. If you can offer any
identifications it would be great. I can post some of the few I have idenified
that aren't on Jenny Brandis' list.

I am sure someone will ask how I did the cataloguing. I am using an inventory
app for the Ipad called Mystuff2, which is very flexible and set up categories
such as maker, material painter, spangle, price ..., and upload photos. You
can take a photo with the Ipad camera or import them from the photo store or
other locations. I used a digital camera, because I'm not that good at
positioning the Ipad. I've also done my lace books, it has an option to link
to the Amazon databases and will download all the relevant information from
reading the barcode. There is a demo version available to try out before you
buy, I've been very pleased with it so far.
