Hello All! Over the last several seasons, I've shopped for art supplies at a
locally owned shop in Lake Park, FL. The gal who manages the place is an
embroiderer & lace admirer. Needless to say, we've hit if off! She's been to
Bruges where she purchased finished lace & some bobbins for future use. The
Lace Room at Flagler Museum also piqued her interest. So today I took pillows
& bobbins to Lake Park to give her some ideas--Springett snake, wire lace &
Skansk on a roller. Nothing white or Torchon! It was a great way to show that
lace can be many things & it can utilize diverse materials. She asked one of
the employees to join us (!!) so both Alexis & Gianna made a few rows of cloth
stitch on the snake. I left her with a few spare bobbins & web info for
supplies so hope she will have fun this summer. Luckily, the Palm Beach County
library system has a few beginning lace books in their collection. She
couldn't find her bobbins from Bruges but did bring in some item!
s she received as a gift from an elderly friend. She believes they are from
Venezuela. I will upload a pic to Flickr as soon as I figure out why I'm
getting the "invalid password" error code. They are turned wood but I don't
see how they could be considered bobbins as they seem more like awls but not
quite pointy enough. Hope an expert will identify them! Sincerely, Susan
Hottle, Palm Beach Gardens, FL, USA
