If you have wished for English translations of books published in France -
this one is for you! Support for this book may send a consumer message to
the publisher that we want more English translations! It is nice to be
able to read the ten pages of history of lace in Venice and Burano - all well
illustrated.

For those with some experience making needle lace, and those interested in
colorful laces. Makers may need to work under magnification, because the
lace stitches are tiny - like the originals. Amply illustrated in color,
with many drawings and photos.

Traditionally, this lace was made with white thread. This book offers
contemporary patterns and ideas for using color. Therefore, perfect for
making one-of-a-kind needle laces.

Silk and cotton thread options given are Aurifil, DMC, Phenix, Sajou, and
Valdani.

Twenty-two Technique pages from which to practice: Several leaves with
different fillings. These leaves can be used after completion, so your time
is well-spent.

Thirty Designs to stitch, with detailed instructions - mostly flowers and
butterflies. Suitable for sewing onto clothing, hats, etc. Framed pieces.
Jewelry - pins, earrings, a bracelet. Two sets of earrings; each set has
two possible designs (for example, 2 different orchids).

The reviewer is an experienced embroiderer and embroidery teacher. If you
have never made needle lace (using variations of buttonhole stitch),
enlarge the pattern and practice using larger thread. Stitching with the eye
end of the threaded needle prevents piercing surrounding threads with the
point and yields a crisper appearance. It is also nice to consult other
needle lace books to see if a different way of illustrating stitches is
helpful.
I found the illustrations wonderful, but if you get stuck on a tiny
detail - this is how to work your way out of puzzlement.
