Volume 28, Number 4, Issue 155, Aug/Sept 2014, "Sew Beautiful" is in North American book stores for readers who do not subscribe. It announces that it is the last issue. On the cover is a small girl in a flower girl dress of white laces (recycled from a grandmother's wedding dress), with long silk ribbons in her hair and flowing from her shoulders. Sew Beautiful is a lovely magazine that has been available from Martha Pullen of Alabama since 1987. It has always had pattern inserts stapled in the center, so that people could avoid the additional cost of individual patterns in fabric stores. Patterns made the magazine cover price well worth the purchase. It has always featured the most recent machines for sewing and for special effects. Martha has traveled the world, teaching. So, others of our readers may be familiar with her classes. It has also been a source for shaping laces into curves and using laces for French sewing by machine. Smocking, fancy applications of rick rack on clothing, unique ways of using decorative buttons, applique, quilting, hand embroidery, etc. always filled the pages. There have been issues featuring bridal clothing for adults (as does this Aug/Sept one), Christenings, and back to school clothes. For these reasons, every issue is in my research library here. It has always been a challenge to decide which would be the best magazines to save for future researchers. I base the decision on quality, creativity, long-term usefulness, and a magazine's relationship to lace and embroidery. All the books from Martha Pullen are also in this research library, because they fall into the category of being "related to lace and embroidery". _www.sewbeautifulmag.com_ (http://www.sewbeautifulmag.com) Jeri Ames in Maine USA Lace and Embroidery Resource Center
