My husband and I owned 3 over a 3-6 year period. Most do make nice pets (and
do not have to be caged all the time). They each had different
'personalities' and reacted to voices and touch differently. One liked to be
talked to by didn't really want to be touched. The other 2 seemed to enjoy
being held. Our grandchildren enjoyed them, and took one to a Hedgehog Show
where he won (a bag of food) in a race with other hedgehogs. They were fun to
watch, the male lived in a plastic wading pool with shavings and his toys. He
really liked to push small tin cans around the area, if he bumped something (a
wall) he would look around and change directions. We all enjoyed them while
they lived, but they are short lived (max about 5 years) and have become so
inbred that they become ill readily (our vet called them little cancer
factories).

> I spotted an local ad yesterday for baby hedgehogs. The owners are asking
$200 each for them! It's a good thing I'm not interested in owning a caged
animal, but dang they're cute!
