Upon reading through the messages, I found the one that stated they set the filter to "do not forward to spam box". I found that box, and this message I'm replying to came to my inbox, with an orange warning label that reads: This message was not sent to Spam because of a filter you created.
So, if you have gmail, creating a filter and then checking the box that states do not send any of the emails to spam from this filter, it works. At least, it did for me, this time.
