Jeri, The original archives were saved on an FTP server run by Liz at Arachne.com. Avital set up a backup archive with maillists.org in mid 2003 when, I think, she took over as main administrator for the lists ( hurray for Avital!). I don't know when the FTP server was turned off - the landing page for the list is there but you can no longer get into the ftp pages. So that is why the pre 2003 messages are missing. I don't know if the FTp archive still exists or can be reconstructed. Sadly archive.org don't save private maillists like ours. I do have digests for lace (but not lace chat) going back to ~2000, if that helps; I lost earlier messages with a platform migration from Sun to Mac then Win PC ... I remember some immensely helpful discussions on leaves, tensioning etc that helped me when I first started out making lace.
