As you rush to complete custom lace gifts for loved ones,  remember those 
who must work for compensation - in less comfortable  environs - literally, 
sweat shops.  This is an article that I copied  to put in the V and A 
"Muslin" book by Sonia Ashmore, reviewed on Arachne  January 19, 2013.   As was 
said in the book review, fine muslins  have been used for centuries as a fabric 
to which lace was added.  It  can be a delicate material that takes months 
to weave into lengths for  individual sheer garments.

Bangladesh is often associated with cheap  clothes produced for the mass 
market, but the much more expensive jamdani fabric  is also made there, and
