It is an interesting article. I did note, however, a very striking similarity between her bookmark pattern and the 12 inch ruler design I made and worked a few years ago - those of you who have been to shows in the UK where I've been on The Lace Guild's stand prior to 2014 might have seen the ruler on display. I can't remember if the pattern went into Lace or was kept back for a possible pattern pack, but the question is as to whether halving the pattern and changing one ground is sufficient to call it a new pattern in copyright terms.
