Hi Janice,
A bit late I know but some feed back on your poppy pattern, I used it again
last year, (half your petals and half bigger redrawn by myself) to make a
new one for myself and also my Mum (aged 90) to wear on the run up to
Remembrance Sunday. She loved it and wore it proudly. She was talking to
her carers about it and also telling them about the third one I made which
we stapled to a small wooden cross on which my DH burned the initials of our
relatives involved in the 1st World War and also the Second World War. We
dont live close to her but I was able to show her when we were chatting on
skype she was telling one of their people who reused the idea slightly with
thin sticks of wood and felt poppies. On the sticks they wrote the names
of one ancestor who they were remembering (Mum had her Dads name) and they
displayed them beautifully on a large board with the wording, We Will
Remember them. Lots of the residents of her Care Home took part and it
seemed to make it a little more special for them all.
So I thought I would pass on how far your poppy idea has evolved and
travelled. We were emailed a photo of her sitting holding her poppy cross
before it went up on the board. They had all been watching the news
footage showing all the ceramic poppies around the tower so were definitely
inspired by it all.

Got my copy of the British Lace magazine today and sat down straight away
for my lace fix. Imagine my surprise when I spotted on page 58 under News
from the Library the cover of the IOLI Bulletin with the photo of my gold
necklace design on the cover. You can see my photo of it on my website. It
was the winning entry in the IOLI Gold Rush competition in Sacramento.
Then on the last page I spotted a poppy photo and thought, hmm, that looks
similar to my poppy design. Read the article written by Janis Savage and I
remembered she wrote to me about making a poppy. I had totally forgotten
about it. What a nice surprise for me this morning.
This morning I took my lace pillow to my knitting group to impress them with
a piece of black Ipswich I was working and I even had time to sit outside
this afternoon and make some more lace.
