Wow! This reminded me of the groundbreaking panel of Bobbin Lace Grounds and Fillings that is held (in paper form) within the back cover pocket of Gertrude Whiting's 1920 book: A Lace Guide for Makers and Collectors. Whiting's original lace "sampler" is in the collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Ironic that these two scholars are separated by a century. Our Arachne member, Tess Parrish, has made possible access to many books of interest to lace researchers. At the following address you will reach the Table of Contents for the Whiting book, and you can explore further on the Arizona site, if you wish. http://www.cs.arizona.edu/patterns/weaving/books/CONTENTS/wg_lace_con.pdf In addition, the Bibliography in Whiting's book is enormous and may contain much of interest.
