Thank you Elizabeth for such an eloquent post on the future of Sweet Briar. I was so pleased that the museum brought samples of the lace (with white gloves & magnifiers!) to the LASB exhibit hall. There was much to see, discuss & photograph. That such a small museum would provide such generous access to our group was truly amazing. Perhaps we did not thank them enough? As to the college itself, we can only feel pity for the board of trustees who are counting the beans. With such a large endowment fund, did they consider a merger with another school? Perhaps to continue as the Sweet Briar campus of XYZ university under a commonwealth campus system? While I hope that those in the know are able to save Sweet Briar, that doesn't guarantee that the lace will be saved as well. Hoping for the best, fearing the worst in this economy. Sincerely, Susan Hottle, Palm Beach Gardens, FL USA
