It would certainly happen both while you were making the lace and later, when it was being used, if you used sharp bugle beads. With the metal ones, I am not so sure. It would probably be fine in the making, but wear through the thread later. I don't think it would matter what thread you used - linen and silk would resist a little longer than cotton, but would break in the end, I think
