Dear Spiders, Emails are easily mis-interpreted, there are no visual, facial or aural cues on which we often rely.
Jeri contributes much to the list and this is generous. The email that Jeri quoted started off with "I am a lurker to Arachne and do find reading my emails very informative, it is lovely to see how helpful and friendly lace makers are!!" I don't think they're the opening lines of someone trying to be mean. A line by line "she said/she said" is unecessary, however some interesting points have been raised which may be worthy of consideration. - how can lurkers participate in the list? An gentle archive reminder may be handy, but It's not always easy to find what you want in the archives if you are a beginner, and you may not fully comprehend what you do find. It can be intimidating to pipe up at all. - what should the role of the list be? New questions only? What if someone wants a new interaction on an old question. Perhaps there is new info/other ways of explanation that some may find easier to comprehend. - how can we encourage lurkers (of which I am one) and newbies to contribute more? The list is becoming increasingly quieter, is this a slow road to the end of Arachne? - how do we encourage new/young lace makers to ensure lace-making and lace knowledge longevity? Perhaps the Facebook group is more appropriate? I don't know the answers, these questions arose in my mind reading the recent emails. Thanks to all who post. Happy lace-making and peace to all ⺠Jen in Melbourne, Australia. - To unsubscribe send email to [email protected] containing the line: unsubscribe lace [email protected].
