I have made small pieces of idrija on a flat pillow so I can see how the
addition of the curve would make it work easier. Interesting point as it
did seem very slow going, but then that is probably me, :-).

I made my own cylindrical pillow for tape laces. I didn’t realize why they
showed lacemakers using that type of pillow until I started working on it.
The
sewings are much easier to work with the greater curve of the pillow.

I have been inspired by the pictures of lacemakers in Slovenia to start on
a
new piece of Idrija lace. I haven't made any for a while! It struck me once
again, how different the way of working is on a Slovenian cylindrical pillow
in a basket. Has anyone, used to working on a flat pillow, tried a Slovenian
one, and if so, could you easily adapt to it, at least when working Idrija
lace with only six pairs of bobbins? I am wondering whether to try to buy or
make this type of pillow.
