Here is a great opportunity to introduce lace (and other handwork) to lots of young people! Calling all local tatters in the Detroit, Michigan (USA) area!
Maker Faires are held in several cities for the DIY and "hacker" crowd. They are attended by thousands of people, young and old. The Detroit Maker Faire, which is held at The Henry Ford Museum, is heavy on creative technologies, but they do have a "NeedleArts Zone" where they have hands-on projects for people to try. They depend on volunteer teachers to run the lessons, and in return for 4 hours of your time, you get free admission to the whole weekend of the faire. Maybe if enough tatters contact her ASAP she will put tatting back on the program....if I was going to be in Michigan, I'd be there, but it is too long of a drive from Massachusetts.... We have knitting, crochet, cross-stitch, needlepoint and spinning slots available. And we have an amazing new thing -- weaving on little hand-held looms! Pretty much anyone with a comprehension of weaving (think those little potholders we made as kids) can do this and teach this. We can give you a five-minute instruction and you will be ready to teach!
