I think my preferred pin cushions are ones filled with emery powder (I just have 2 of the Springetts kits variety). The emery has kept my pins clean and reasonably sharp through the years, and I've had both of mine for probably 25+ years, and they've been in humid and dry climates over that time.
My other ones of choice are filled with batting (the soft toy kind of batting), that's densely packed. They've held up well over the years (one is a cute little hat that was a favour at the 2005 Denver Convention), and pins go in and out with ease. Hope everyone has had/is having a wonderful Festive season, and a Happy New Year to all.
