Before I started lace making, all of my pin cushions were stuffed with fine steel wool and a tiny cube of soap in the very centre to keep the pins lubricated. This is how my granny always did them, but now that I am using nickel plated stainless pins, i cant use that for fear of damaging the pins.
In home Ec we were taught to use walnut hulls that you get from the fodder store. Now i stuff my cushions half unwashed wool and half polyfill from the craft store.
