Hi Kathryn I think it all depends on how you have stitch it on, if you have used the four sided stitch it is quite safe to cut right up to the stitches as it is so secure I have even used tweezers to pull a few more threads out so no material is showing on the lace side at all Sue Harvey Norfolk UK
