Message from my coworker: "Christmas is cancelled this year unless you behave." :-)
I think that in the interests of the peace of this list, it is time to declare a moratorium on this discussion. Reading about people leaving, defending, or attacking each other is demoralizing and unproductive. Please remember that this is a lace list, not a card-exchange-hurt-feelings-venting-frustrations list. To present and past organizers of exchanges: Please get together via private email and work things out among yourselves. There is no reason why the exchanges can't be divided equitably. Get ORGANIZED. That means, agree on a schedule for announcement dates and deadlines. If you know you're going to be on vacation or having medical issues, you can share that on a calendar. To those who are feeling hurt and upset: Ask yourself--will this really matter in 10 years? 20? Is this more important than your health, your family, your friends? Is being upset helping you in any way? If not, go find something else to do for a while. Immerse yourself in another hobby. Stop reading Arachne for a while. Go back to making lace, take long walks, have lunch with friends, catch up on your regular reading, have a Pinterest binge. Arachne is supposed to be fun, not an obligation. If it's not fun, there's not much point in doing it! To those who are going to leave anyway: We will miss you. Please make your farewells in a discrete manner. Remember that no one appreciates a Drama Queen. To those who plan to write me a private email to tell me how unfair this is: I will answer your email, but you will probably not like the answer. Maybe it's because I now work in open-source software, but my attitude is that you are all adults and you can work things out for yourselves. You don't need Mother stepping in to make things right. Sometimes life is unfair. The best one can do in such a situation is to get over it and, most of all, LEARN from the experience.
