I have done some playing around with the Aurifil 80, and I would say it
is about equivalent to either Brok 120/2 or Egyptian 120/2. I did an
'inexpert' wrap and I cam up with about 59 wraps per cm. i have used it
for one of the mats from Roz Snowden's Miniature Bobbin lace book that
called for Madeira Tanne 80 which is no longer made, and it worked just
fine, even though Brenda's book tells me that one is 50 wraps. I think
with these really fine threads it is virtually impossible to get a very
accurate wrap. I'd say it likely is very equivalent to any of the
machine embroidery 80 threads that are no longer available. and yes, it
does come in colours, though not the full range that Aurifil has in
their other weights.
