I've used the bundle start in Flanders and Binche, and Rosaline, and any time I want to do a quick sample of a lace; easy to hang a bunch from a big pin and settle the group into pairs as you will have found when starting Rosaline. For a wider lace, I use several bundles. It was an efficient method where lacemakers were trying to earn income from piecework.
