Please keep an eye on the status of your suppliers.  Communicate with them.  Today I had occasion to read the Thistle Threads blog, and there was a November 1 account about how some specialty thread and needlework suppliers are are retiring or going out of business.  Not just in the U.S., but also in England.  http://thistle-threads.blogspot.com/  This is information to be shared with your local lace guilds, lace newsletters, lace students.  There is at least one member of Arachne, in England, who is working on the very challenging and expensive reproduction of a 17th C. Stumpwork Casket under the leadership of Tricia Nguyen of Thistle Threads, in Massachusetts.  As you all know by now, some stumpwork 3-D effects are made using needle lace techniques.  Tricia is known for her attention to historic details, and for commissioning threads that are not available anywhere to be custom made to approximate what was used centuries ago.  Her threads inventory is impressive, but even she is faced with supply problems that go beyond what money can buy.  Jeri Ames in Maine USA Lace and Embroidery Resource Center   Â
