Hi Susan, The white lace on the Smithsonian Ipswich pillow is a simple point ground lace made about 70 years after the Ipswich lace industry. Moreover, as Adele pointed out, the Ipswich lace makers made white linen laces in the late 1700s. We don't have samples, so we don't know what kind it was. The lace on the pillow is made with cotton thread, which was not commonly used for lace until the 1830s after gassing (burning off the fuzz of spun cotton thread) became common. This was well after the Ipswich lace industry had lost out to machine made laces. -Karen
